Top Ten (Tuesday) Best Bookish Memories

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish that combines lists and books.  This weeks topic is... best bookish memories. This was hard, because in some ways, I feel like my whole life is one big bookish memory.

1. Meeting Kim and Kate in real life.  They were the first bloggers I met in person and I was totally scared that Kate was a serial killer. (I mean have you READ her blog? ;) )  But they were both awesome, which lead to...
2. Readathons with Kim and Kate.  The picture below is Kim's living room.  We did the 24 hour readathon together there.  It involved lots of brownies, pizza, and Twizzlers.

3. BEA.  Amazing.  I met tons of awesome bloggers, went to signings for some of my favorite authors, and spent days walking around in a place that smelled like books.  It's hard to describe how awesome it was, but I can't wait for BEA 2013.

4. My first LA Times Festival of Books... I heard so many amazing author's speak AND it's where I became a nerdfighter.  This is probably what I miss most about living in LA.

5. Living in England and having my British friends read me Harry Potter.  I was a weird American.

6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was the first time I had gone to a midnight release party for a book.  I went with my (still) best friend to Borders and I got my book first, so we curled up on the floor, between the bookshelves, and started reading together while we waited for his number to be called.

7. My same friend went with me to the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, but this time my family and college friends came too.  We dressed up and I was so excited for this book, but it was also bittersweet, because it was the ending.  I took my time reading this one, savoring it over the next week.

8. My first time participating in Dewey's readathon.  My college roommate told me about it and I thought reading for 24 hours straight was a great way to spend my weekend.  So I made a reading pile and stayed up for the whole 24 hours.

9. Staying up all night reading the Hunger Games.  One minute I was starting a new book before bed, the next I was crying, the sun was rising, and the book was over.

10.  Getting my signed hardcover of my favorite book, The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.  This is a picture of the one I gave away.  Mine is personalized.... :)  I only embarrassed myself slightly.

Do you guys find it hard narrowing down your bookish memories?

  1. What a lot of amazing memories related to books! I think my number one would be going to BEA and seeing so many of the authors that I gush over.

  4. BEA was a blast! I just wish I had more time to spend with the bloggers I met there. I wish I could go this year, but it will have to wait til 2014.

I love reading all the Harry Potter stories. I went to the midnight release of the 7th book, but none of the others. Back then I didn't have any nerdy friends to go with me, so it just me and my copy of Half-Blood Prince.

  6. LOVE this post. I especially love that your British friends read you HP. I made my Australian friends (when I lived there) read me Aussie books. They were liek "WHY?" me "cool accents, yo" . It was such a pleasure meeting you at BEA! Are you planning to go next year?

  7. I love getting lost in a book and staying up all night! It doesn't happen often anymore because as a tired adult I succumb to sleep more easily than in my younger years... but it's the BEST feeling to be so lost in a book. And I can totally see how Hunger Games could do that to a person!

I loved how so many people at the Harry Potter releases would just plop down anywhere once they got their hands on the book! I want another book series to do that to people!!! It was so fun!

I'm so super duper tempted to register for BEA this year. I'm going back and forth... Gah!

Great list! I love all your pictures :)

  8. I remember the first book you got me to read was White Cat and I remember the first time we became friends beyond just leaving comments on each others blogs was when TFIOS came out and we were checking to see which colors we got.

  9. It is weird that I'm not at all bothered that you basically told THE WHOLE INTERNET that you thought I was a potential serial killer? lol

I am so glad to be part of some of your very best bookish memories- you are totally part of mine too!

  10. So many great memories! The midnight releases of the Harry Potter books were some of my favorite memories, too. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can go to BEA this year so I can meet you and Jessie and see Kate again! It'll be so awesome!

And yes. Kate's blog does make one wonder if she moonlights as a Dexter-style serial killer... ;)
