Looks From Books: Splintered by A. G. Howard (Part 2)

Looks from books is a semi-regular feature at The Fake Steph Dot Com where I explore book inspired fashion.  This month I'm putting together looks from Splintered by A. G. Howard.  You can check out my sweet skater girl look for Alyssa here.

Today, I'm focusing on Jeb, Alyssa's long time crush.  He's a good guy from a bad part of town... Alyssa's part of town.  But he is dating the resident mean girl when the novel begins and it just happens to be prom night.  Which means Jeb follows Alyssa to Wonderland in a tux.  Alyssa is a bit condescending about his dressing up (for the record, I LOVE dressing up), but she likes that he's still able to keep it grunge.

Jeb

Personally, I think it's a little rude to wear old combat boots and a wifebeater with your tux to prom.  Yes, I know that you don't like dressing up and that you are totally punk rock or whatever, but you're not dressing up for you.  You are dressing up because it is important to someone who is supposed to be important to you.  This is why girls are crazy.  Anyways, Alyssa loves this look on him, right down to the bandanna tied around his arm (what?).  And I couldn't leave out the garnet labret, because this gem and piercing is what allows Jeb to impersonate an elfin knight (their blood crystallizes into gems!).

Am I being too harsh?  Tell me what you think:  Is dressing up asking too much of a casual guy or is it the least he can do to show an interest in the things that are important to you?

  2. Hahaha, Jenny's comment is funny.

Yes, I think that you should dress up if someone really wants you to, otherwise you're just kind of being a dick. But I haven't read this book so I don't really know the context. However, I think wife beaters are really sexy for some reason. Clean ones! Not the gross ones with pit stains...

And a bandanna around the arm? Weird. Kids these days and their fashion... ;)

  4. I’m just in the beginning of Splintered and I must say the fashion threw me. I was not expecting a punkish skater girl as the main character. I guess I had preconceived notions about a book that has Alice in Wonderland as a source.
