It's been a while since I participated, and I couldn't have come back for a better question.
Q: WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE VILLAIN FROM A BOOK?
The only thing I love more than villains is anti-heroes. But that isn't the question. Who are some of my favorite villains?
Voldemort and his death eaters, especially Lucious Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange.
The Harry Potter villains are real. Even when they are over the top, they never feel like caricatures. What makes them so scary is that they have their own personal logic and moral code that they stick to and there is a very real chance that they may succeed.
What I love about the villains in White Cat is that, for the most part, all the "bad guys" are people Cassell cares about. It creates a lot of emotional tension as we watch him struggle with how to do the right thing.
This book was okay. I didn't love Juliette or Adam, but the villain... Warner... sign me up. Sexy and vicious and emotionally damaged. Also rich and manipulative and a little bit creepy.
Dear Old Dad may be in jail, but his presence can't be missed. He's intelligent, manipulative... and patient. The sequel comes out this year and the closer it gets, the more irrationally afraid I get of killers in my back seat.
So yeah... I like smart. Especially when it comes to villains. I want my heroes to truly struggle. Who do you think is the smartest villain?

I completely agree with you about the death eaters (especially Bellatrix) and all the bad guys in White Cat.
ReplyDeleteAll excellent choices! Thanks for stopping by my blog, I'm a new follower :D
ReplyDeleteLove the Harry Potter villians. They do seem real and that makes a villian much more scary. I want to read Shatter Me and I REALLY want to read I Hunt Killers (that villian truly sounds creepy--it's like watching Criminal Minds).
ReplyDeleteSmart villians are probably the best because they keep you guessing and horrified by their warped logic. I can't really think of any new ones to add at the momen though.
Great choice!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking out my blog and following, I am now following back : )
Great answer this week!! I also picked Warner :)
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and thanks for stopping by my blog!
SO many people have said Warner. I really need to get my hands on those books! Great picks.
ReplyDeleteHere's my FF: www.best-of-ya.blogspot.com
I don't know anybody other than HP villains but you're spot on with them. Bellatrix still pops up in my nightmares...
ReplyDeleteApparently I need to read Mafi's books because I don't know who this Warner person is that keeps showing up all over today.
Warner has made an appearance on many blogs today! I haven't read Shatter Me but he sounds like a reason to check out the book!

I agree with Warner, though I don't see him as a villain after Destroy Me.

Great picks! Have to agree that the HP villains are so real that they're even scarier! And Warner is making an awful lot of lists today! Smart villains are the best, aren't they?
ReplyDeleteYou know, I wasn't a big fan of Shatter Me but Warner did creep me out and stir my emotions.
ReplyDeleteBellatrix and Voldemort have to be just about the all time best villains.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence about reading Shatter Me. I hear such bleh reviews. But then I hear people loving Warner! Hrm.
New follower! My FF post!
Ooh, I definitely love Warner, for me he's more of a sympathetic villain than anything else. Now, on the other hand, Sebastian and Valentine from TMI series by Cassandra Clare, are pretty damn good villains to as far as evil no good villains go. I also really liked Anne Mathers from Glow the Sky Chaser's series.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a new follower, check out my blog sometime and my FF. :)

I agree with all of this, even if I haven't read White Cat. And I feel you on Shatter Me! Juliette was okay, and Adam was really nice... but Warner! He's pretty much why I'm sticking with the series.
ReplyDeleteWho's the smartest villain? Hmmm...that is a question I'm going to be pondering all day because I can't think of one right now. I need to go home and stare at my books for a minute.
