Obligatory End of Year Post: 2013 Challenges

I wanted a picture and I didn't want to infringe copyright.  Since Nathan Bransford recently posted about finding images through the Wikimedia Commons, I decided to give it a try for my non-book posts.  Also... I love this:

And this image has nothing to do with 2013 or my goals, but... moving on.  This year I'm not joining any challenges.  I'm just setting some personal goals for myself and my reading in the new year.

Reading Goals:
Library books: 24
E-books: 24 (over drive books count for both categories)
graphic novels: 12
TBR pile: 12
2013 releases: 18
Non-fiction: 2

I also want to finish either the Stephanie Plum or Myron Bolitar series and make an effort to read outside my comfort zone at least once every three months.  By reading outside my comfort zone, I mean that I will pick up a book that I think isn't for me, but that has been recommended to me by several people.  We're talking historical, romance, non-fiction, etc.

Goals for the blog...
This year I want to go to BEA again.  I'd also like this to be the year that I never miss a day of posting... I feel like I'm tempting the universe here and this will probably be the first goal to go when I start grad classes in a few weeks.

I also want to be more consistent with my features (check out my new features page).  I'll be recommitting to doing a Looks From Books 2-3 times a month and I'll be introducing a new feature that I'm really excited about, called TBR Intervention.  TBR Intervention will post on the first Friday of every month.  I will offer up 4-5 books from TBR Pile and all you have to do is leave a comment telling me which one to read next.  I'll pick a random commenter, read the book they chose, and then pop it in the mail for them to enjoy.

Wish me luck and let me know if you've posted any of your own goals!  I can't wait to check them out so that I can cheer you on this year!

  1. Good goals, I'll be posting some of mine tonight when I get home.

And I'm definitely going to BEA again! Although, I'm taking the train- no megabus for me this time! And while I know that you have your NYC bff, Pam has said that you are welcome to stay with her too. She lives outside of New York City, but I thought I'd better pass it on in case your boys had more homeless chicks living with them this coming year. ;)

I will say that Scorpio Races will be one of my must reads in January. I'm going to try to pick out at least two books a month from my tbr shelves (physical and ebook) that I have to get to- treat them like I do the books I get for the ARC tours.

I think you're goals are great, but I know you'll be busy with school- so be easy on yourself! Let's try to get together soon, before April's readathon and Bittner's visit!

  3. These are some great goals Steph! And I love the idea of how you are going to conquer your tbr pile. I had a "come to Jesus" moment with my tbr pile last night and let me tell you...it was not pretty!

I think I will be signing up for a couple of challenges this year, mainly the ones my friends are all hosting. But when it really comes down to it I'm just going to try to keep my head above water and by the end of the year whatever I've read is what I've read.

  4. Really interesting goals, and I'm loving your feature ideas! I don't have a huge TBR pile, but I made way too many lists on my blog of books I want to read - and I'm way behind.

  5. These sound like some solid goals, and I like the idea of TBR Invention! I myself am still thinking about my 2013 goals... Hm...

  6. I signed up for a few challenges last year and decided that I'm going to skip that this year. I already read a ton of books.

My main 2013 blogging resolution: fun. Have more fun.

I'll keep track of the books I read through Goodreads and my use my new Excel spreadsheet to track what genre, format, etc. I read, just because I'm curious. And, okay, nerdy.

I'll continue to try to post every day while still giving myself a pass now and then -- to do fun non-blogging stuff.

And I'd like to make time to post about stuff that interests me and read stuff that interests me. Because that's ... fun.

  7. It's good to have goals in mind. Next year I'll continue with ROW80, 150 books to read (using Goodreads to keep track), and I'll post M-W-F or at least twice a week on my blog.

I like the idea of the TBR Intervention.

    Happy New Year!

  8. You are so ambitious! I want to tackle my TBR pile as well, but it wasn't part of my goal setting. I did include Debuts as a goal for myself, though I failed my goal for this year. Boo.

I am amazed that you're going to try to post every day. I've set up an 3-4 times a week schedule now that I'm back from my hiatus, and I'm hoping that I can keep it up. I bought a new Vera Bradley planner to schedule and organize posts... and so far it's working ;)

And I'm looking forward to more Looks from Books! Love those posts!
