Waiting On Wednesday, hosted by Breaking the Spine, lets us book hoarding bloggers highlight a book we're excited for each week. This week I'm waiting on Magisterium by Jeff Hirsch.
GoodReads Description: On one side of the Rift is a technological paradise without famine or want. On the other side is a mystery.
Sixteen-year-old Glenn Morgan has lived next to the Rift her entire life and has no idea of what might be on the other side of it. Glenn's only friend, Kevin, insists the fence holds back a world of monsters and witchcraft, but magic isn't for Glenn. She has enough problems with reality: Glenn's mother disappeared when she was six, and soon after, she lost her scientist father to his all-consuming work on the mysterious Project. Glenn buries herself in her studies and dreams about the day she can escape. But when her father's work leads to his arrest, he gives Glenn a simple metal bracelet that will send Glenn and Kevin on the run---with only one place to go.
With MAGISTERIUM, Jeff Hirsch brings us the story of a complex, captivating world that will leave readers breathless until the very last page.
Why I'm Excited: This just sounds awesome. I got a signed arc of this at BEA and it was one of my top six books to look for at BEA.
Magisterium comes out October 1, 2012 from Scholastic Press.

Oh sounds creepier than I had anticipated. I can't help but think of the Magisterium from His Dark Materials so I'm hoping it doesn't take that religious path but regardless - sounds great! Lovely pick, Steph!
ReplyDeleteOh dude, this book is so cray! Like for reals. You might like it though, because you sometimes go for sort of off the wall stuff. Hope it works for you!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it has a lot of great world building potential. :)
ReplyDeleteYou know it's funny I also got an ARC at BEA but I haven't been able to get past page 1 because I don't like the main character's name. All I hear is awesomeness tho so I may try to pick it up again. Thanks for the reminder, Steph!
ReplyDeleteThis one sounds really crazy! I hope you like it though!
ReplyDeleteIs Glenn a girl? Cause that kind of bothers me. I'm not sure this one is for me :(
ReplyDeleteThis is something I want to read too! And I'm not crazy about the name Glenn for a girl, but it won't stop me from liking the book. I do like when girl's have boyish names, but Glenn might be too much. Unless it was spelled Glynn... that'd be a bit better... I didn't get enough sleep last night because the Hubs and I hacked my Kindle 2 so that I could add my own screensavers (I got The Great Gatsby as one!) and then I spent all night adding pictures to my Kindle. So maybe my comments aren't so witty today. Sorry. ;)
