GoodReads Description: When Barry Fairweather dies in his early forties, the town of Pagford is left in shock.
Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?
The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults.
The Casual Vacancy comes out September 27, 2012 from Little, Brown and Company.

Is it bad that I'm just not interested in this book at all? If/when you do buy you'll have to let me know what you think, Steph. (It's also been forever and I finally blogged bahaha). I guess I am just not in love with this cover and while I like dark comedies on screen (Heathers is my obsession), I just don't always think they come across as well in novels. *shrug* could just be me!
ReplyDeleteWell. Yeah. Duh. Did you know they have already printed off 2 million copies in anticipation for the crazy interest this is already earning? I have two copies pre-ordered already and I cannot wait. And yes, I join the bandwagon of *wishes that this is secretly an HP novel in disguise*. Great pick!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to this one as well. And it's not that far away now! But I'm also really really nervous about it. I'll have to mentally prepare myself and make sure I keep Harry Potter really far away from it in case it's just awful. But it's J.K. Rowling, so it can't be bad, right? Great pick :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit afraid of this one. The plot itself doesn't sound all that interesting to me, though I do love me some dark comedy. BUT there's just so much riding on this one.
ReplyDeleteGreat pick. It will be interesting to read her adult novel.

ReplyDeleteThis one frightens me :p

Hi Steph! :) Yours is the second WoW post I saw today featuring JK Rowling's upcoming title :) I haven't read Harry Potter (well, except for the first book, but that's like NOTHING, really.. the fun starts later!) but I am definitely looking forward to see what else this author has in store! :) Great pick! Thank you for stopping by my blog earlier :)

Dang -- she's coming here and I didn't even know. Of course, the tickets are sold out. I'm definitely curious about the book!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for this! I think Rowling is a great writer, and I can't see what this non HP book is like. I am trying to not get my expectations up too high, though.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I like the sound of this one but I hope you enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteCome check out my WOW post.
I'm afraid for this one, I just loved Harry Potter soooo much. Yes, I will be reading it, but hopefully it doesn't disappoint me at all. The synopsis makes me a little wary.
ReplyDeleteBut how can I not read it considering it's JK Rowling and all?!
Great choice!
Honestly I'm just not 100% sold on this one. I love JK Rowling, and she is a brilliant author, but the plot doesn't sound all that great to me. I have ordered a copy, but I will probably wait to read it until I see some reviews from the likes of you and others before I read it.
ReplyDeleteIs it okay if I admit I've never read anything by this author? Please don't throw things at me. :)
ReplyDeleteBut I do hope that you enjoy reading it! Thanks for stopping by my WOW.
I can't wait for this either! And I completely forgot that it was out this month! Thanks for reminding me! Now to talk the hubs into pre-ordering it... ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not completely sold on this one either but because it is Rowling I I know I'll read it eventually
ReplyDeleteSuper excited for this as well! I can't believe it's only 11 days away!!! Eeek! I don't care if it's not Harry Potter, I just love her. And her writing.
