Weekend Hops - August 10
Who is your go-to author when you are in a reading rut?
If I'm in a reading rut, I usually want to pick up something funny so I reach for John Green, Janet Evanovich, or Louise Rennison.
Unexpected Books: Which books did you have reservations about reading, but ended up loving once you did?
Revolution. For real, I thought it was going to be boring with it half-historical (my least favorite genre) and the other half about a girl researching historical music. It blew me away and became one of my favorite books that I read that year.

Good idea to go with something funny. I am there right now, so maybe I will look for something funny.

I almost wish I hadn't raced through the Stephanie Plum books, although I haven't read the last two. Maybe it's time to catch up! Revolution isn't my normal type of book, but I ended up really loving books like The Historian and A Discovery of Witches, both full of lots of history and smart stuff. I guess I need to get to Revolution soon. I've always loved the cover!
ReplyDeleteThen He Ate My Boy Entrancers? Ha, never heard of it. But with that title, I don't think you can go wrong.
ReplyDeleteLOVVEE Louis Rennison!!! I'm currently reading PERSONAL EFFECTS thanks to Netgalley and enjoying it so far. :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a few favorite authors I go to when I am in a rut to get myself jump-started again. They usually have a book I haven't read yet. And Evanovich's books can be funny sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I haven't read any of these books.

I think Revolution is one of my favorite YA books ever!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree that funny is the way to go when you're in a slump. I just grab a David Sedaris book and read a story or two.
Janet Evanovich for sure! I love her, and she never fails to make me laugh. Even her least good book (no, I can't say which) still makes me laugh all the time. She is gifted.
ReplyDeleteStopping by via the Book Blogger Hop :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read anything from those authors, but I've been meaning to. Thanks for sharing!
My Post.
I loved the Louise Rennison books when I was a teenager- there's still a little part of me that would like the read the more recent ones.
ReplyDeleteI've heard lots of good things about Stephanie Plum but never actually read any of her books.
I think funny is a pretty good idea though
Can you believe I've never read anything by any of the authors you mentioned? Ouch. I think I need to expand my reading horizons!
ReplyDeleteHappy Hopping!
I love when a book you had really low expectations for turns out amazing! And the Louise Rennison books are definitely comfort books. :)
ReplyDeleteStopping by the the BBH. New follower. Have a great weekend.

cool books
ReplyDeleteGood choices. I need to read something funny more often.
ReplyDeleteHistorical is not my cup of tea, either, but Revolution looks interesting :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rec!
I've never read past One for the Money. Not really sure why, but I do love turning to funny books when I'm in a rut.
ReplyDeleteI love Janet Evanovich. SUCH an amazing author. Whenever I'm in a reading rut, I usually reread my favorite scenes from my favorite books. It makes me remember why I love those books so much. :)
ReplyDeleteI can see where grabbing something humorous when you are in a reading rut is a very good call! If you are already in a rut the last thing you need is something heavy. When I'm in a reading rut I go for chick lit! Sarah Addison Allen or Jennifer Cruise, I'm all about it!
ReplyDeleteI really want to read Revolution and the Georgia Nicolson books! And I need to get to those Stephanie Plum books I have on my shelf--I've only read 2 and I own like 11 of them!
