It's Week Five of St. Vladimir's Summer School. Jen Ryland, Jen from Owl Read It, and Lauren from The Headless Owl are participating this week and I bet they didn't cut it as close to the deadline as I did. Actually, I'm in detention again. It's just been one of those months where I'm having trouble balancing real life and blog life.

Summary: Rose and her friends graduate Vampire Academy and go to Royal Court to make arrangements for "real life". But Rose thinks she's found a way to bring Dmitri back from being an evil Strigoi and she is going to risk all of her friend's lives and futures to find out if it's possible.
Brief thoughts: (I wrote this first paragraph after drinking a giant martini). So Rose seriously annoyed me in this book. I thought all her recklessness was out of her system by the end of the last book but NO. She risks her future and the life of her friends for the life of one person. What really gets me is that she's doing this all for Dmitri while dating Adrian. He really loves her and she treats him so badly. She tells him that she would try to make it work even if Dmitri were there, but I called BS when she said it and was sad to see it turn out to be the truth (the BS).
Other thoughts... I love Christian, especially with Lissa. I'm a little nervous that he's got something going on with Mia, and I'm eager to finish reading and find out. Rose getting to know both of her parents in this book is one of my favorite parts. It's just... awkward and new for her. With her parents, I don't feel like she's making the same mistakes over and over again. I was really disappointed in Rose when she let Dmitri go. He killed a whole bunch of people and it was Rose's fault. She never felt guilty enough. I truly don't believe she is in love with Dmitri; she has an unhealthy obsession with him. The Dmitri that she thinks she loves would have rather died than let all those people die.

What I learned about Romance (after all, we are in summer school):
Don't be the first guy a girl dates after her first love gets turned evil. She'll totally use all your money and power connections to bring him back from the dark side and then mope when he doesn't want her (although I do expect Dmitri and Rose to get back together as soon as I pick up the rest of the book... poor Adrian).
Spirit Bound gets a Fake Steph Rating of...

Don't be the first guy a girl dates after the guy she loves turns evil! Ha ha that is indeed good advice and takes being a rebound guy to a whole new level
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed you're tackling these all so quickly. I need to read them...someday.
ReplyDeleteAs you know I'm not reading the books so I don't have too much to really say, but I totally love all your "What I learned about romance" sections. You are pretty much spot on.
ReplyDeleteAlso, these covers don't seem very vampirey.
Argh, Rose!!!! I have such conflicting feelings about her because, yes, I kind of love her, but then I also really dislike her. She's so manipulative and drags poor Adrian (my love!) around and just...no, Rose, no. Also, Dimitri's return from being Strigoi is when he stopped being interesting to me, ha. HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED EVIL...or died for real.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree! I still love her, but the way Rose dealt with her feelings for Adrian really bothered me, and I almost expected more from her. And you're right about Christian, I completely forgot about that. Would love to see what he and Mia have been doing exactly! Last book is going to be epic.
ReplyDeleteSorry it's taken me so long to get to your review (and for the late post)! Crazy, crazy week. LOVE your lesson as usual - poor, poor Adrian and Lissa!
