I think I may start rotating these personal posts in with Looks From Books and my Book Boyfriend Stealing. So... something personal about me. How about two things?
Something That Makes Me Crazy: 911 calls being released.
Seriously. I hate this. I hate this SO MUCH. To the point that I will most likely wait until it is TOO LATE if I ever need to call 911. I value my privacy. I think a lot about how much of myself I "put out there" and the idea that a recording of me at my most vulnerable, freaking out during an emergency, will be released for public inspection and ridicule.... it makes me sick.
Something That Makes Me Happy: Dressing up.
I'm a big fan of costumes. From theme parties to things like the Great Urban Race where you have to create a team uniform, I think it is so much fun. Yes, costumes are silly, but I love the idea of showing your committment to having a good time. In my experience, people who absolutely refuse to dress up are so concerned with what people will think of them that they never have any fun. Life can be so serious that I think it's important to prioritize having fun.
This was my poor attempt at Ke$ha last Halloween. I totally wish I had gone bigger with the eye make up. And I don't know how you beautiful girls with curls do it... I seriously thought I was going to have to shave my head to get the tangles out. It didn't help that I grabbed the wrong can and had been spraying my hair with moose instead of hairspray.

honestly, I don't think I ever thought about the whole 911 thing before but you do make a good point.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't mind dressing up, my problem is I'm not very creative when it comes to costumes so I never have any good ideas. But when I do get an idea, like dressing up as a Kick Ass Super Hero a couple of years ago for Halloween, I go all out!
I don't mind 911 calls being released, but I have definitely been impressed with anyone who isn't a screechy mess, like I no doubt would be. There is a morbid little (or not so little part of me) that likes to hear them.
ReplyDeleteI love to dress up! This Halloween I am making you go to Rocky Horror and you're doing Zombie Walk with us too. Perhaps for the April readathon that Bittner is coming out for we can have a little dress up as a book character theme...
I agree with you that I wouldn't want my 911 call released, though it wouldn't ever stop me from calling 911, I just know that I would not be calm. On the flip side I have a general dislike for 911 calls that get released and I don't listen to them because they really freak me out. I am not at all surprised that Kate likes to hear them ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't dress up, like ever. The last time I wore a Halloween custume was my senior year in high school. Last year at the zombie walk I was the most pathetic zombie ever.
I love dressing up! I was a punk rock version of Little Red Riding Hood last year (Little black dress, red cap and Converse high tops). I can't remember what I was this year for Halloween what a shame....And for the last HP movie I was Luna Lovegood frm the 6th book complete with a lion hat. ;-) And ROCKY HORROR!!! I dressed up wearing a Gatsby t-shirt for that :-P
ReplyDeleteAs a curly haired girl.....don't get me started on the tangles!
Dude, I hate the whole 911 calls being released to the public. WTF, do we no longer have privacy??
ReplyDeletealso, dressing up is my favorite! I have a friend who is a photographer and she makes me be a model for her all the time. I love it, though, because I get my make up done and wear the best costumes ever. <3
LOL! Moose instead of hairspray. Hee hee. Though, I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time. :(
ReplyDelete911 calls always sound so sad!
ReplyDeleteAnd Halloween is my favorite holiday because I love dressing up! However, I do feel more self conscious as I get older which is kind of strange. Like if I was to go to Comic-Con or a Harry Potter convention, I'd probably wear a t-shirt supporting my fandom rather than dressing up as a character from that fandom. Kinda strange, but that's how I am these days! Although I still love to dress up on Halloween, and I'm super excited for my son to start understanding it more!
