Reread: Once Upon A Crime (Sisters Grimm 4) by Michael Buckley

I'm currently rereading through the series Sisters Grimm before reading the newly-released final book in the series (The Council of Mirrors) that just came out.

Book: Once Upon A Crime (Sisters Grimm 4) by Michael Buckley

What I remember (may include spoilers):  The Grimms break through the barrier around Ferry Port Landing to bring Puck to Faery so that he can heal.  Faery is in New York City and Puck is indeed royalty... and betrothed.  Puck is not into her and in some event that covers Sabrina in goo, he chooses Sabrina over this other girl and she is so not happy about it.  That is what I most remember.  The goo and the fairy girl and the giggling.  I think this is my favorite one.  I can't wait to reread this one.

Thoughts on the reread (WILL INCLUDE SPOILERS): Okay, so they go to New York and go to Faery.  I had completely forgotten the plot--Puck's father, the king, is killed and the Grimm's have to solve the mystery.  On top of this Sabrina has to come to terms with the fact that her mother was involved with the EverAfter community in New York.

Puck's betrothed was hilarious and she was one of my favorite parts of the book.  And the scene where Sabrina is covered in goo didn't exactly happen like I remembered.  Sabrina is marked by a gross smell and Puck's healing cocoon follows her around the city.  It is hilarious.

Overall:  This one did not have me giggling as much as I remembered.  I love Sabrina and Puck, but their emotional scenes in this one felt a little forced to me.  That is not to say that I didn't like it, just that this one is not my favorite in the series for the whole "Sabrina and Puck" thing.  This is actually one of the better mysteries and I appreciated that Sabrina does a ton of growing up.

Reading Challenges: This book counts toward the following challenges: 272 pages toward the 15,000 page challenge, Support Your Local Library, and Read Me Baby One More Time. Track all my progress on my 2012 Challenges page.

  2. It's still one of my favorites. :) I love the goo and the grossness and that it's awfulness really is sweet and adorable.

  3. I was curious about this series awhile ago, so it sounds like something I should check out. I'm just so bad with series!! I hope you like the last one, and I skimmed this review (didn't want to spoil too much, though I'm sure I won't remember it by the time I DO read) and it sounds like an interesting read.

  6. Okay, so I feel like I have honestly commented on so many blogs today because I really am trying to get caught up. But now that the day is coming to an end I am finding it hard to come up with things to write in the comment sections. I thought about just not commenting on this one since it was so long ago, but then I thought no, because I wanted you to at least know that I did go back and read this one.
So, after all of that I guess I will just say "Great review Steph!"
