Happy Father's Day! Who is your favorite dad character in a book and why?
I expect to see this one a LOT, but, easily, my favorite dad character is Mr. Weasley. He's great. He pursued a career that fascinated him instead of one that could make him money and that is the best lesson he could give to his kids. He is very easy going, but that doesn't mean that he lets himself be pushed around. He stands up for himself and his family when he needs to, but he doesn't become unnecessarily stressed by things that don't matter. He is probably the happiest person in literature and for that, I love him.
Do you belong to a book club, either online or in real life?
Kind of. I have two book clubs that I've joined on Meetup, but I have yet to actually attend. I am planning on going. I'm kind of nervous though. Any tips for a first time book club goer?

Clearly Mr Weasley is the best choice. The only choice as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteJoining a book club is awesome! Just think, if I didn't join my book club, I wouldn't have met Kate, and if I didn't meet Kate I wouldn't have started a blog and if I didn't start the blog I wouldn't have met you! See all the awesomeness you would have missed out on if I wouldn't have joined a book club!!!!
Plus if you come to Kate's book club you'll already know us, so then you won't be nervous at all.
That was tonight. I got the reminder on my phone as I was getting off the highway. It totally slipped my mind. I should have stayed in Richmond a few more hours. I'm so mad at myself. Buuuut... I'm going to read The Diviners now. Mwahahaha!
DeleteThat's awesome! I want to be in a book club. But no one seems to read the same things I do. :/
ReplyDeleteWe need to do video chats with Laura for book club. Manda can join too.
DeleteHappy Friday and here are my answers:

Happy Friday!
DeleteMr. Weasley is an excellent choice. I think my favorite is Mr. Bennett from Pride and Prejudice. He is just so funny at times as he deals with his eccentric family. But there is always something deeper lurking underneath his wit that shows his inner feelings. Love him!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a member of a book club, but I really, really want to be because I have all of these feelings I want to discuss about the things I read, but only my blog and goodreads to do it with. I want more interaction somehow. And no one I know reads the books I read. I need to find a group online, I think.
I've never read Pride and Prejudice, but I really feel like I need to. I'm dying to actually go to a book club.
DeleteOh yes, Mr. Weasley is an awesome choice :)

Love Mr. Weasley.
DeleteLucky you!- my local meetup has YET to find any bookclubs locally! Hope all goes well.
ReplyDelete(and I also LOVE Mr Weasley as a great father choice!)
Meetup.com has found a TON of suggestions for me! Seriously, they e-mail EVERY DAY with a new bookclub. I'm going to the one that has wine on the agenda.
DeleteHello Fake Steph! :) Mr. Weasley is indeed a great character, which makes me wonder why I didn't think of him...
ReplyDeleteI'm a new GFC follower. Stop by and follow back?

I love meeting new bloggers! Can't wait to check your blog out. And Mr. Weasley is awesome! So is Mrs. W, but she is a bit on the crazier side.
DeleteHi, I am a new follower (GFC) I like your dad choice, he was one I was thinking of too,
ReplyDeleteMy FF is here http://concisebookreviewsbymichelle.blogspot.com/2012/06/ff-follow-friday-hop-615.html
I loved that you picked Luke, though. Love him. and now I feel like I need to go catch up on that series.
DeleteMr Weasley is GREAT. I've seen that answer a few times.
ReplyDeleteMy follow friday. Please visit!
New follower.
I knew he would be a popular answer, but I couldn't NOT pick him. Love him. :)
DeleteOh my god! Of course! Why didn't I think of this?!
ReplyDeleteHere is my FF
Lauren from Northern Plunder
He's so awesome. First dad to pop into my mind.
DeleteI'm drawing a blank on my favorite dad characters but I love your pick! He was a great dad and a great substitute dad for Harry!
ReplyDeleteFirst piece of advice for book club - ATTENDANCE!
Second piece of advice - be respectful.
I'm having trouble with your first piece of advice.
DeleteMr Weasley rocks. I'm guessing lots of people will agree. As for book club attendance, I'd say just keep going when it's awkward and you don't feel like you belong. Eventually it gets better.
ReplyDeleteI always feel awkward and like I don't belong... so book club shouldn't be a problem. :)
DeleteI agree on Mr. Weasley. Mrs. Weasley is awesome too!
ReplyDeleteLove her! She's crazy, but in a BAMF kind of way.
DeleteMr. Weasely is such a popular choice, but he's a great choice! He's funny, sweet, and just plain AWESOME! :)

He always makes me laugh and he is a sweetheart. But he's tough when he needs to be.
DeleteLOVE Mr. Weasley. He's great for all the reason you said.
ReplyDeleteI'm nervous going to meetings etc too for the first time. But I find its usually for nothing. People are friendly and welcoming, after all we are all there for the same reason: love of books, right?
(Found you via Book Blogger Hop, BTW)
I'm so excited to start going to book club.
DeleteMr. Weasley is a GREAT choice. Their whole family is awesome. I'd love to move in with them. :)
ReplyDeleteAlison at The Cheap Reader
I would love to visit with the Weasleys. they rock!
DeleteHopping through. Love Mr. Weasley. I like how you say he doesn't stress much, but that he stands up when it matters.
ReplyDeleteMy Hop
Exactly. I love the way he lives his life and think he sets a good example about what's important in life for his kids and for Harry.
DeleteI love Mr. Weasley too. He and Mrs. Weasley love each other so much--that's another thing that's so great about that family.
ReplyDeleteJoin the book club! The only advice I have is to be sure to read the books, even if they aren't your favorite genre, and then try to have something to say about them. And have fun!
Im really bad about reading books I don't want to read. LOL. But I am going to try.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and following me and leaving a comment.
ReplyDeleteWell they are some Classic books that would be a good reads.
Best of luck.
I love meeting new bloggers! Best part of blogging. It's why I love these hops.
DeleteYES! Mr. Weasley is such a great dad! I think I remember reading somewhere that Rowling was going to kill him off in one of the books (Order of the Phoenix, maybe) but she decided that would leave the book with too few good father figures. I'm really glad that she decided not to kill him off!
ReplyDeleteAnd I LOVE my book club! You should totally join one, although I know I was probably lucky with mine because we all have similar taste, even though we disagree on certain books sometimes.
