This has been on my TBR pile for a while, but Kate recently loved it and after reading one of her status updates on GoodReads, I had to move it to the top of the pile. I'm one chapter in and already love it!
1. The change with the mockingjay pin didn't bother me at all. In fact, I liked it better. Sorry.
2. Kato was hot.
3. The dogs at the end were TERRIFYING. I am so glad they cut out the whole eye thing. I don't think I could have handled it.
4. The friend I saw it with hadn't read the book and was confused about the berries. That seemed to be the only thing she couldn't follow.
5. Seneca Crane was likeable and sympathetic. He had a great beard. The final scene with the berries... omg, yes!
6. President Snow is exactly how I like my bad guys. Quiet and pleasant, but absolutely terrifying.
7. I liked how they strengthened the love triangle. It added some of the tension we lost, because we obviously can't be in Katniss's head during the movie. I loved the actor who played Gale, and Josh Hutcherson made Peeta a little stronger than he came off in the book. I loved them both!
8. Was it just me or did Katniss have more romantic chemistry with Cinna than with either Gale or Peeta. Also, where do I buy gold eyeliner. I must have it.
9. The Capitol was beautiful.
10. I loved seeing how the games were put together and Caesar Flickerman.... inspired!
11. Loved the fire costumes!

I've loved the Soulless cover since I first saw but wasn't so sure about the book, but since Kate really liked it I will read it, just probably not soon.
ReplyDeleteI liked Seneca Crane and President Snow, I was not bothered by the pin either (but I know someone who is). Overall I just really liked the movie. I'll have more posted on the blog tomorrow.
I've had Soulless on my Kindle for the longest time! I should pick it up next too!
ReplyDeleteI also loved Peeta and Gale. I think they did a great job in this movie, and will be great in the next ones as well!
I also thought the way they showed us how the Games were manipulated was very cool! Better than I imagined.
And I didn't care about the Mockingjay pin thing. It was more streamlined and meaningful in the movie so that was cool with me.
Enjoy reading in bed! :)

Ohhh, brainchild, I'm a mother of a brainchild! I feel special.
ReplyDeleteSoulless is just yummy. Sooo good, but also smart, witty and sexy.
Yes, Cinna had it going on. Lenny Kravitz is just not aging... I suspect he's bathing in the blood of virgins, or just has a really great skin regime. *sigh* And who knew gold eyeliner could be so hot? He can set me on fire anytime!
And just to make it clear, Kim is referring to a woman in our book club that was obsessed with Katniss's friendship with Madge. I was cool with the change. I honestly wasn't that impressed with the actor that played Gale, and while I like Josh Hutchinson as Peeta, I was distracted by his awful hair dye. I thought they did an amazing job at casting some of the supporting characters- Prim, Rue, Clove, Glimmer, Thresh, Cato, so good. And I was really surprised by how much I loved Woody Harelson as Haymitch! And of course Sutherland is an awesome villain. I really want to go back and watch it again... soon!
And... today I finished Anna and the French Kiss! It was wonderful!
It always amazes me how we can have such different taste and yet have so many of the same opinions. Perhaps it's because you're the one who taught me about how to take a book and make it into a GOOD movie.
ReplyDeleteI was discussing the movie with some of my new coworkers at the library and we talked about almost everything you mentioned!
The pid didn't bother me at all. Someone else didn't like it but it wouldn't have made sense to bring in a random character to give her the pin. It also helped add emotional depth to the whole situation with Prim.
I loved Crane's beard! and President Snow is a perfect villian.
We were wondering what the 7 secs they cut were. I'm glad I didn't have to see it. I love these books but the violence is painful to watch.
I also liked that they emphasized Gale's romantic interest more than in the books because I was never that impressed with Gale in the book.
And the twirly fire dress was awesome!!
We also talked about Rue's scene and thought they did it well. However, I thought the scene where Katniss volunteered had way more emotional impact than the death scene.
I love parasols so I know I will have to read Soulless at some point!
ReplyDeleteHere are my thoughts on your thoughts about HG:
1. The scene with the berries was the absolute only thing that bothered me about the movie. I felt it was rushed through just a tad to much and I would have liked to see Peeta fight her on that for a just a bit longer. But hey, what are you going to do?
2. Seneca Crane was Hot and I too Loved his beard! He kind of reminded me of Jarred Leto but I knew it wasn't him.
3. Donald Southerland does not scare me! Don't get me wrong, he is a great actor, but I have seen Pride and Prejudice and Buffy the Vampire Slayer far too many times to ever see him as evil!
4. Before the movie came out I was getting so sick and tired of people giving Josh Hutcherson a hard time! I thought he did a great job and I am very excited to see him through out the rest of the films. Even after reading the books I had never really decided whose side I was on, but now I am totally team Peeta!!!
However if they want to create a plot twist and have Katniss runs away Cinna, I'd be all for that!
I've had Soulless on my TBR list forever! I'm glad you're liking it and that Kate liked it - I'll have to pick it up soon!
ReplyDeleteI didn't mind the change with the Mockingjay pin - I just wished they had explained the Mockingjays a bit more. Maybe they'll do that in the next film.
I think Donald Sutherland can be really creepy, but he wasn't that creepy to me here. But I do know that President Snow really doesn't have that big of a part in the first book, and so he isn't really that creepy in the first one. So I'm looking forward to him in the next movie!
I had some other issues with the film (as you know), but I'm going to see it again this weekend and I hope I enjoy it more than I did the first time around! I was feeling sick then so that might have something to do with it!
